ASHLYN FALL/WINTER 2021 “Hibernation”

Pause, rest, reflect, refresh, rebirth. ASHLYN FW21 recalls a reawakening of Creative Director Ashlynn Park’s personal fashion hibernation. A time of forced repose, 2020 caused Park to reflect on her past experiences under a renewed light. Routines changed, earth got a break, responsibility shifted, certainty unraveled.

FW21 embraces the unexpected. Traditional silhouettes are reworked to mirror the lines of change. Mannish deconstructed tailoring is juxtaposed with plush voluminous shapes and minimal knitwear dresses. Park plays with billowing silhouettes in contrasting hues of black, white and cardinal red – a color signaling her resilience of ideas. Bonded crepe suit jackets are enclosed with elongated ties and bondage straps and paired with cotton poplin shirts that explore unexpected folds. Gowns expose whimsical back cut-outs. An air-dried cotton skirt plays with double-layered pleats.

No seam left behind. With FW21 ASHLYN launched Zero Waste, a capsule with a promise to reduce fashion waste through thoughtful design. Here a shirt-dress, that can be worn two ways, is constructed from a single piece of cotton poplin fabric cut and produced with zero waste product. Practical, never boring. Park focused on eliminating waste in cutting and adjusting her production system; items are pre-ordered, never mass-produced. All materials are responsibly sourced, mostly from Japan, and ethically made by hand in New York City.
